On Saturday 9 December, 8 girls were selected to represent Claremont in the U10 Hoe Bridge Football tournament. It was a round robin tournament against; Hoe Bridge A,B and C team, The Study, and St Teresa’s Effingham.
Going into the first few matches, we discussed how the pitches were small and we needed plenty of shots on goal. The girls listened and executed with a 4-0 win and 3-0 win against Hoe Bridge’s two teams. Alex S had a fantastic start by keeping a clean sheet in both matches.
Our third game, we faced The Study, who brought an extremely strong team. Early goals from the likes of Sophie N and Emilia E secured the win.
Hoe Bridge A team were our hardest match, with them scoring an early goal. We knew what we had to do to equalise. Hoe Bridge reactions were quick off the mark and were able to press straight from the goal kick. With a bit of re-adjusting, we were able to clear the ball out to Sophie N, who demonstrated excellent skill and ability to get around her players, to make a fantastic pass to one of our forwards to put the ball in the net.
With a draw against their A team, we knew a win in the final match against St Teresa’s Effingham would secure 1st place in the competition. Our super subs, Beatrice H and Teddie G made a fantastic impact when entering the pitch and slotted straight into the team. Erin M and Isabelle T were brick walls at the back in defence, only conceding one goal all tournaments. Isabelle N headed the attack in the final game, playing a variety of beautiful one touch passes which enabled us to get plenty of shots towards their goal.
At the end of the tournament, Hoe Bridge asked for a player of the tournament from each team. Miss Edmundson selected Beatrice H for her positive attitude throughout the day, and always giving 100% on and off the pitch. All in all, a fantastic morning with the U10 crowned champions.
Well done to everyone selected to play, Miss Edmundson and Mr McKillop were extremely proud of you all!
