Year 6’s residential trip to French château

Year 6 headed off for a four-day residential on Tuesday 2 May. They stayed at the beautiful Le Château de Warsy which is located in a small hamlet in Picardy, northern France and is surrounded by 88 acres of unspoilt woodland and parkland.

The children had an action packed residential full of exciting and new activities and visits. They enjoyed putting their language skills to good use in the market in Amiens, learning all about snail farming and visiting Nausicaä, the largest sea life centre in Europe. The afternoon at the goat farm was spectacular; the sun was shining and there was an abundance of cute goats to feed and snuggle! Evenings were spent enjoying great French cuisine which included trying snails and frog’s legs for those who wanted as well as fun games, campfires and marshmallow roasting run by the château animateurs.

A particular moving experience was the guided tour of the World War One Battlefields of the Somme. It is not until you visit the cemeteries, trenches and memorials do you fully appreciate the true history of the First World War. All the staff were impressed and proud of our Year 6 children and the respectful way they behaved during this historically enriching and humbling visit.

A truly wonderful trip was had by all, and we can’t wait to return next year!
